MIAMI, Fla. (www.sonyopentennis.com) – The 2014 Sony Open, the most glamorous event on the ATP and WTA calendars, will receive a record 106.5 hours of domestic television coverage across ESPN, ESPN2 and the Tennis Channel. This marks the first year that the men’s and women’s final will air on ESPN networks. In 2013, the Sony Open received nearly 12,000 hours of global television coverage in 193 countries and territories.
Coverage will begin Wednesday, March 19 at 11am – 11pm on Tennis Channel. For seven consecutive days fans will be able to catch all of the early round matches; including the women’s singles quarterfinals, men’s singles fourth round and doubles quarterfinals. Then on Wednesday, March 26, ESPN picks up coverage and will air 20.5 hours of live action starting at 1:00pm with the Men’s and Women’s Quarterfinals on ESPN2. Coverage culminates with the women’s final on Saturday, March 29 at 1:00pm on ESPN2, and the men’s final on Sunday, March 30 at 2:30pm on ESPN.
Chris Fowler will lead ESPN’s telecast crew and will be joined by Darren Cahill, Brad Gilbert, Cliff Drysdale and Mary Joe Fernandez. All matches will also be accessible on ESPN3, ESPN’s live multi-screen sports network. Additionally, ESPN3 will offer multi-court coverage featuring separate feeds for the three main courts – Stadium, Grandstand and Court 1. Coverage starts on Wednesday, March 19 and includes more than 300 hours of live match coverage.
