Australian Open champions Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis granted doubles wildcard

Miami Gardens, FL (March 11, 2022) – The 2022 Miami Open presented by Itaú announced its full list of wildcards and the group includes three former Grand Slam singles champions and the reigning Australian Open men’s doubles champions.

The five men’s main draw singles wildcards are highlighted by three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray and Australian superstar Nick Kyrgios. The remaining men’s main draw wildcards have been granted to Jack Draper, Jordan Thompson and Juncheng Shang.

In addition, Kyrgios and doubles partner Thanasi Kokkinakis, fresh off their Australian Open title run, have been granted a doubles main-draw wildcard along with the team of current World No. 5 and seven-time ATP title winner Stefanos Tsitsipas and partner Feliciano Lopez. The event has one men’s doubles wildcard still available.

The eight women’s main draw wildcards features, four-time Grand Slam champion and former World No. 1 Naomi Osaka, and 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin. Wildcards were also granted to Astra Sharma, Hailey Baptiste, Linda Fruhvirtova, Alexandra Eala, Ashlyn Krueger and Robin Montgomery.

The tournament issued a doubles wildcard to the Madison Keys and Jessica Pegula. The tournament has two women’s doubles wildcards remaining.

The Miami Open, the iconic tennis and entertainment festival, returns to Hard Rock Stadium, March 21 – April 3 with the energy and excitement that has long made it the place to be in March. The tournament player field boasts Grand Slam-level talent including 15 players with a combined 26 career Grand Slam singles titles. Overall, 71 of the top 75 ranked women and 65 of the top 75 ranked men are entered to compete in Miami.

Qualifying rounds will be March 21-22 and will determine the final 12 slots in each singles’ draw. The women’s main draw begins on Tuesday, March 22, followed by the first round of the men’s main draw on Wednesday, March 23.
