Key Biscayne – Katie Swan, of Great Britain, recorded her career-best win against American Lauren Davis. Swan, who turned professional last month and three months shy of her 18th birthday, beat Davis who was ranked more than 400 places above her.

No. 1 seed Taylor Fritz beat Argentine Nicolas Kicker 6-4, 6-3 advancing to the second round of the men’s qualifiers. Christian Harrison, one of two Americans who received a wild card lost to American Tim Smyczek, 6-4, 6-2.

All eyes were on American Bjorn Fratangelo’s qualifier after his grueling third round match at Indian Wells against world No. 1 Novak Djokovic. He beat his French opponent Edouard Roger-Vasselin in a three set match, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.

American WTA player Samantha Crawford was victorious against Colombian Mariana Duque-Mariño, who is 30 spots ahead in rank.Top women’s seed Jelena Ostapenko lost to South Florida’s own Sachia Vickery in a high energy match, 5-7, 2-6.

No. 3 seed Estonian Anett Kontaveit lost to Greek Maria Sakkari, who is ranked 54 spots under her, 3-6, 1-6.

The evening of women’s qualifiers ended with former Grand Slam winner Francesca Schiavone advancing to the second round of after beating Xinyun Han of China.

The men’s and women’s qualifiers will continue on Tuesday at the Crandon Park Tennis Center, starting at 10:00 am.
