KEY BISCAYNE – Bad weather Friday means a busy day of matches at the 2015 Miami Open on Saturday.
Seven-time tournament champ Serena Williams’ opening match against Monica Niculescu will be the third of six matches scheduled to be played on stadium court on Day 6 of the tournament at Crandon Park Tennis Center.
It follows No. 11 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga vs. Tim Smycezk, which was scheduled to be the last match of the night session Friday.
In all, a dozen matches were either suspended or postponed.
They’ve been added to a Saturday slate that starts at 11 a.m. and will run late into the night. The six stadium matches, in order, are Kaia Kanepi vs. No. 4 seed Caroline Wozniacki, Smycezk vs. Tsonga, No. 1 seed Williams vs. Niculescu, Grigor Dimitrov vs. Vasek Pospisil, No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic vs. Martin Klizan and No. 7 seed Agnieszka Radwanska vs. Irina Camelia-Begu.
It will be the four-time champion Djokovic’s first opening singles match of this year’s tournament. Djokovic, who has captured the title three of the past four years, and partner Janko Tipsarevic lost their first-round doubles match Friday 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 to Robert Lindstedt and Jurgen Melzer.
Other top matches to be on the lookout for include: No. 4 seed Kei Nishikori vs. Mikhail Youzhny on grandstand, No. 6 seed David Ferrer vs. Federico Delbonis on court one, and No. 17 seed Gael Monfils vs. qualifier Filip Krajinovic on court two.
