Roger Federer looks to continue his pursuit of a third Sony Open Tennis title on Sunday, when he takes Stadium Court against Thiemo de Bakker of the Netherlands during the Day Session at the 2014 Sony Open Tennis.
Federer continues in fine form after sweeping past Ivo Karlovic in the second round at the Sony Open. He also won in Dubai earlier this year and battled Novak Djokovic to a third set tie-break in the finals at Indian Wells.
Other big names in action on Sunday include last year’s champ Andy Murray, who dropped the opening set to Matthew Ebden on Friday night before storming back to win 12 of 13 games and close out the match. Murray will play the second match on the Stadium Court in the Day Session as he takes on Spaniard Feliciano Lopez.
Women’s No. 2 seed Li Na finally debuts at this year’s Sony Open as she plays the first match on Stadium Court against American Madison Keys. Na was granted a walkover after her second round opponent withdrew just prior to their match. Venus Williams returns to her home away from home, Stadium Court, when she faces off against Casey Dellacqua of Austria. American Sloane Stephens kicks off the night session in an attractive matchup with Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark. David Ferrer caps the night session with a match against Andreas Seppi of Italy.
As always, the action on the outer courts will be intense, highlighted by an early matchup between France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga against fan favorite Marcos Baghdatis of Cypress on the Grandstand at 11 a.m. Also on tap for that court is No. 2 seed Agneiszka Radwanska against Elena Vesnina, No. 10 seed Dominika Cibulkova against Alize Cornet and Grigor Dimitrov against Kei Nishikori.
