Sinner wins his second Miami Open and joins the Sunshine Double club

Only off-and-on again rain delays could slow down Jannik Sinner from winning his second Miami Open title and cap off a truly historic four-week run in which he became the eighth man to pull off the demanding Sunshine Double. But no man has ever won successive Masters 1000 series events in Indian Wells and Miami without dropping a set until Sinner. Sinner, world No. 2 but closing fast on No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, is the last man to join the Sunshine Double list since Roger Federer in 2017.

American Townsend and Siniakova win the Miami Open for the Sunshine Double

The combination of a, “mom’s power nap,” and strategy session during a 3-hour-15-minute rain delay helped turn a tight women’s doubles final into a rout for the team of American Taylor Townsend and Czechian Katerina Siniakova in the Miami Open Sunday evening. Townsend and Siniakova fought off four set points in the opening set to down top-seeded Italians Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini, 7-6 (0), 6-1, the same pair they defeated in the semifinals of Indian Wells before they won that tournament a few weeks ago. The duo becomes the first Sunshine Double doubles champions since Elise Mertens and Aryna Sabalenka achieved the feat in 2019.

World No.1 Sabalenka wins her second straight Miami Open and completes the Sunshine Double

On Coco Gauff’s only set point during the final of the Miami Open on Saturday afternoon, she raced to the far corner where Aryna Sabalenka painted both lines and somehow ripped it crosscourt on the sideline to force a weak forehand reply from the world No. 1 Belarusian. Most of the sold-out, 16,830 pro-Coco fans in Hard Rock Stadium erupted in applause for their hometown favorite, partly because they craved a third set of this sky-high level confrontation. After all, Gauff, the fourth seed, won her first four matches this tournament in three sets, a place the dominant Sabalenka rarely goes to.

Italian duo Bolelli-Vavassori win Miami Open doubles title

Simone Bolelli entered Saturday afternoon’s match with a heavy heart but was able to put aside tough news from home, and team up with fellow Italian partner Andrea Vavassori to win the men’s doubles championship at the Miami Open. Bolelli, 40 and with specks of grey hair, had won 19 titles, including the Australian Open title with Italian Fabio Fognini in 2015, but he and Andrea Vavassori, 30, had never won a Masters 1000 title separately or together since joining forces three years ago. Until now.

Men’s final preview

Why Sinner? The Italian doesn’t like to discuss it, but he’s one match win away from becoming the eighth man to win Indian Wells and Miami in the same season for the arduous Sunshine Double, but first since Roger Federer in 2017. Why Lehecka: This is his first career Masters 1000 final and fifth ATP Tour final. He has won two titles: 2025 Brisbane and 2024 Adelaide. He has yet to drop his serve in his five matches in Miami.

Sinner downs Zverev in slugfest, will play Lehecka in Sunday’s final of Miami Open

Alexander Zverev, inarguably, the best player to not yet win a Grand Slam, played a near perfect match. Yet, he still lost his seventh consecutive match – all on hard courts – to world No. 2, Jannik Sinner, 6-3, 7-6 (4) in a Mount Everest-level semifinal match Friday night in the Miami Open.

American Townsend rolls into Miami Open doubles final with Siniakova

After a listless first set in her doubles semifinal on Friday afternoon, Taylor Townsend flashed back to her quarterfinal match at last year’s Miami Open when she took a scary fall. Although she and steady partner Katerina Siniakova won that match, Townsend didn’t feel right in the next round, a loss. Afterward, it was confirmed Townsend had sustained a concussion; she was forced to miss the next two months until returning to the French Open.

WOMEN’S FINAL PREVIEW

Why Gauff? After four three-set wins, Gauff dominated the usually consistent Karolina Muchova, allowing her just two games in their semifinal. A nerve issue on her left arm seems to be a non-factor. Why Sabalenka? She is clearly the best hard-court player on the Tour, having won 20 of her 23 titles on that surface. She lives in Miami and loves being at home where she won this title last year.
