Miami- British ATP #NextGen player Kyle Edmund was neck and neck through three sets and overcame Czech Jiri Vesely. After a shaky second set of serves, Kyle pulled through the third set with smart tennis skills that we’ve seen in this next generation of tennis players (6-4, 5-7, 7-6). He will go on to play #1 seed Djokovic.

American wild card Michael Mmoh, the youngest player in the main draw, lost to Germany’s Alexander Zverev. Mmoh had beat Novikov and Fratangelo to qualify at Memphis but was not able to beat the higher ranked Zverev at the Miami Open (7-5, 7-6).

After making it through the men’s qualifiers American Dennis Novikov lost to Dusan Lajovic of Serbia. A weak first set (1-6) was followed by a competitive second set (6-7). American Rajeev Ram advances to the second round of men’s singles after beating Evgeny Donskoy.

USA’s Irina Falconi of the WTA beats Italian Francesca Schiavone who emerged from the women’s qualifiers after yesterday’s win against Romanian Sorana Cîrstea.

Great Britain’s wild card Heather Watson advances after overcoming Czech Petra Cetkovska in an impressive (1-6, 0-6) match. The quick game lasted only 47 minutes. Watson advances to the second round of the women’s draw.

Carolina Garcia of France advances to the second round o after beating Mirjana Lucic-Baroni. This is Garcia’s third main draw appearance in Miami. Her career high ranking (23) was achieved last year in March.

Christina McHale (USA) beats Japan’s Misaki Doi in a three set match 2-6, 6-4, 5-7.
