20-year-old Australian Nick Kyrgios went head to head with Canadian Milos Raonic and won in two straight sets, 6-4, 7-6(4). Kyrgios played a fearless game despite only having won one title in his young career. After watching Monfils game earlier in the day it is undeniable that the athletes have a comparable passionate style.
“He came up with the big shots at important moments,” Raonic said. “He had more life and energy”, said Raonic.
The women’s semifinals left World No. 2 Angelique Kerber defeated by Victoria Azarenka, 2-6, 5-7. Azarenka will play Svetlana Kuznetsova and is bidding to be the first to win the elusive Indian Wells-Miami double since 2005. Azarenka’s performance at the Miami Open also assures her a spot in the Top 5 of the WTA rankings on Monday.
